Birth of a woman (Sonnet)

by Delfina Amaya I did use to believe in fairy tales

A handsome prince, both young and scared

Rescues the girl from the dragons scales

The girl now knew he loved her, he cared.

For he was everything, the skies, the Earth

The world did nothing but spin with no sense

Love was a sapling, a brand new birth

Birth of the thing he filled with his scent

But fairytales do have dragons and beasts

He used to love her, left her for a feast

She will not be rescued nor saved

Something she could not give him he craved

Fairytales today have no damsels in distress

Girls make their own choices, they won't take any less. Delfina read this at the Shakespeare Festival 2018 /
